It is high strength, low stretch, and extremely durable, yet it still remains soft over time. Sta-Set is both easy to handle and splice. A true multi-purpose line used for sheets and controls on a wide range of boats from 420s and Flying Scots to Keelboats. The ideal line for collegiate programs and sailing schools looking for a high quality line with superior durability and dependability. Perfect for mainsheets, jib sheets, and control lines.
I appreciate how quickly they sent me the sta-set solid color line. I am using it for control lines on my sailboat. One for the mainsheet and one for the jib lines. Good quality and great price.
I live on Lake Superior, and recently high lake levels have caused much damage to the beach and shoreline. Besides, I am on a high bank. The high lake level also washed out my stairway to the waterfront, and now I had no effective way to get to the waterfront. The staircase was 41 steps, and the dune rose at about a 45 degree angle. Going down was do-able with caution; getting back up was impossible. Still, I needed to be able to get down to clean up the beach of fallen trees and such. I estimated it to be 50 feet from up above to the water's edge. So I bought 70 feet of 1/2 - inch rope and made a knot in the rope every foot. I attached the top loop to a gate post still in place at the top. When stretched out completely, the knotted rope came right to the edge of the water (there was a little bit of luck involved with measurements and estimates too). Coming back up the hill (dune) from the water's edge using the knotted rope, I strayed on my feet all the way to the top. This was a huge success story. If I had it to do over again, I would probably have chosen 3/4" instead of 1/2" - thinking it would fit better in my hands. But no worries, the rope is plenty strong for the purpose at hand, and it worked great! And I have a braided steel cable to haul logs up off the beach with my tractor.
The rope is working perfectly on my daggerboard winch. No fraying or slippage. Great piece of kit!
While I like the look and feel of this rope, I am disappointed in the way it twists into little “knots” when paying out from a coil. I have had it bind several times as I unfurled my jib sheet which in strong wind is not good. Will this condition lesson with time and use?
