Terminal Form
The communications with the EvView device is easy to setup and use. The program must be set at the same communication parameters as the serial RTU device. Once this has been done and your communications port is open, you and press an enter key in the communications memo window.

The EvView communications memo allows you to view the data coming directly from of the EvView device. When you press the monitor button while in the communications, you start a polling sequence. Each channel setup in the device will be polled.

If you press the Send Start Command, the serial device will begin downloading all its memory to the program.

Use the toolbar to open/close communication, set the comport, dial and hangup, Get Log, Break and ParseON functions. See below for further information on these functions.

Button Commands:
1. OpenCom: Open and Close Communications Port Toggle.
When the communications port is open or closed, the caption at the top will show the terminal settings.
2. SetCom: Change serial port parameters. See below.
3. Dial: Dial a phone number for communications to device.
4. Hang Up: Disconnect phone dialer.
5. Get Log: Sets the file name used when the terminal receives a log file, Clears the terminal and sends the start command.
note: the Terminal Send Start Command does the same action.
6. Break: If the terminal has started receiving data, the Break command will send the Stop Command, Save the file to the log name and clear the terminal window. If you need the see the data, you can open the logged data with the file form.
7. ParseON: If the parsing is on, the data received will be parsed and placed in the setup form and displays. If the parse is off the data will not be parsed. It can be parsed by opening the file in the file form and pressing the parse button.



File Menu Item

You can save the terminal data or exit the terminal. Exiting does not close the terminal program, it only hides it. The terminal will still be working in the back ground.

Edit Menu Item

The edit menu allows you to copy or select all text in the communications memo, clear the memo or change the font and color of the memo.

The Copy command, copies the selected text to the clip board. This can be pasted in other editors like the Report editor.
Select all selects all the text in the memo for copying.
Use the clear memo to reset the cursor position and to clear its contents.

Append File command applies to the Send Now command used by Buttons on a form display. The append file command will append new data to the selected filename when the process starts. If the Append File is checked you will be appending data to your file.

Change the memo's font and background color. When you change the font, you can also select the font's color. The Courier New Font is selected as the default font. The program will remember the font and color selected.

Terminal Menu Item

Many of the terminal menu items can be done from the tool bar. The only Unique menu item is Reset Logger menu item. The rest of these items can be selected by clicking a toolbar button or selecting the menu item.

Open or Close the Communications Port
This option opens or closes the current communications port. The communications port could be the modem port or the direct line port.

Setting Communication Parameters

This option is used to set the direct line communication parameters. The modem communications is set in a separate dialog. You can configure this port for the modem port and dial a device directly. Select the options that match your device.

Select this option to change communication parameters. Standard parameters are Com1,9600 baud, 8 bits, 1 stop bit, and no parity. You can also set parameters for using a modem if necessary.

Set Monitoring ON or Set Monitoring OFF
Start monitoring, sends commands to the EvView device to start the communications and parsing.

Set device Name
Use this command to set the default device file name. The normal file name is Log1.txt. or Log2.txt. The number used is the device number selected. You can select the device number in the setup form or the file form.

Enter the RTU (device) number, the name of the location or site and the phone number.
Press the Add button. The new phone entry will be stored.

You can delete an entry by selecting it and pressing the Delete button.

This dialog will pop up when you want to dial your remote devices.
Select the location and press OK.
Select Cancel to stop the dial out.



Set Modem Dialog or Modem Initialization

Set the appropriate parameters for your modem communications.
Press the OK button to save the parameters.
